Starting up...

Technology is moving fast. Information pours into our brains, and if it's not used, and not used repeatedly, it leaks out. Or turns into sludge and drops to the bottom of the sea of ideas. Or something. Pick your metaphor.

Our goal is to build things that are small enough for a two man team of engineers with ADD, but substantial enough to provide some value to ourselves, our families, and ideally to some wider world.

Awesome new technologies keep popping up (bad for people with ADD) and one of us (Mike) is must more tempted than the other (John) to head off for the new shiny thing.

The fact that Mike knows about so many shiny things means when John (the more pragmatic of us) has a problem that needs solving, Mike (the more adventurous) knows what technologies can be quickly applied.

The problem with scouting (a nice name for what Mike does) is that he loses a lot of knowledge between the time he finds something, learns the rudiments, and then finally finds a place to apply what he's found out about. That means he's got to start over again and re-learn what he spent time learning. Sucks.

So this blog is a trail of breadcrumbs, to document where we are going, and to look back on and see where we've been.

We're starting it as a closed blog, with only the two of us as readers.

If it turns out to be successful -- by some measure, we may open it up.

We'll see what happens.
